SANGEETHA
SABHA
It was established to promote music among music
lovers, encourage musicians, cultivation of knowledge of Hindu religion and
devotion to god. Veteran performers and amateurs in this field give various
performances. The building is in dilapidated condition now. The Sangeetha Sabha was started in 1920. The Government has
given them vacant place measuring about 5,391 Square feet in TS no.322/10 of
Vellore town. It was registered under Societies Registration Act on 16.12.1920.
It is in a dilapidated condition at present. There are some office bearers, but
they are not lawful because they were not elected according to the registered
byelaws. At one stage the district administration had initiated proceedings to
take back the above land, since the purpose for which it was given has not been
served.
In such a stage, the present Collector
intervened and decided to renovate the building and revive the Sangeetha
Sabha, since its aims and objectives are something noble. With this idea,
he has for the time being given up the proceedings of taking back the land. On
written and oral representations from various corners and from the elderly
people of Vellore town, he willingly agreed to their request and conducted a
meeting of some important persons who have much knowledge about Sangeetha Sabha
and its brilliant performances. This meeting was conducted under the
chairmanship of the Collector, Mr. Siva kumar, I.A.S., on 20.12.2000 and heard
the opinion of all the participants. Almost all of them have suggested to
renovate the building in a fitting manner even at the cost of Rs.25- 30 lakhs
but only under the chairmanship of the Collector. This meeting ended with the
decision to find out ways and means to mobilize such huge amount of funds purely
from the neutral public in the next meeting.
